 Jonathan Yonkers Chavarria was born in Costa Rica on December 22, 1981. Surfing took over his life at age 12, and he hasn't stopped since. The addiction to the sport has dragged him to make extensive trips to Nicaragua, Mexico, Hawaii and Indonesia. He has experienced everything from staying with the most humbling and kind families in the world to being chased with giant machetes over coconuts. Due to his experiences he can relate to the surfer’s traveling woes and triumphs. Jonathan learned how to read and write in English at age 16 after spending a year with a caring family and going to school in British Columbia, Canada. He completed an eight month-course of Traditional Thai Massage in Chiag Mai, Thailand and a brief yoga course in Venares, India. Currently Jonathan lives in Tamarindo, Costa Rica, where he's busy shooting a surf documentary to go with the second edition of the book, and guiding surf trips to his favorite surf spots and national parks all over Costa Rica and Central America. |
